A Facile Way to Modify Polyester Fabric to Enhance the Adhesion Behavior to Rubber

Due to the extremely inert surface of polyester (PET) fabric, a toxic and traditional resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex (RFL) dipping solution is always necessary in rubber composite industry. Unfortunately, other effective methods for fabric treatment are urgent need improve poor bonding interface between matrix. In our study, facile way modify PET was developed. Specifically, treated by an alkaline coupling agent with magnetic agitation. Afterwards, fabric/rubber composites were prepared through co-vulcanization process. Attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) used characterize chemical composition modified fabrics. The adhesion behavior analyzed peel test. results showed that successfully grafted agent, strength reached 9.8 N/mm after KH550 treatment, which increase if 32% compared original composite. addition, vulcanization rate interfacial fracture mechanism also researched.
